چکیده

We focus on performance analysis of IEEE 802.11e EDCA in non-saturation condition. There have not been many analytic works in non-saturation condition due to mainly analytic complexity of models. However, non-saturation is valid in most real WLAN network. In this paper, we deal with the non-saturation case that the flow is not generated during which the previous flow is in service and flow size is geometrically distributed. This case occurs when a user wants to transmit files in a WLAN area. Our approach is to model stochastic behavior of one station as a discrete time Markov chain by substantially revising and extending the analytical model developed by Bianchi for the performance analysis of DCF in saturation condition. We obtain four performance measures: system throughput, packet average delay, packet loss probability and flow service completion time. Our results can be used for admission control to find optimal number of stations with some constraints on these measures. We present the numerical results for this analysis.

Performance Comparison of IEEE 802.11e EDCA and 802.11b DCF Under Non- Saturation Condition using Network Simulator

In this study, throughput and delay performance of IEEE 802.11b and 802.11e is presented under non-saturation conditions. In order to improve the performance of IEEE 802.11b, the IEEE 802.11e has been proposed to improve the Quality of Services (QoS) for multimedia application. The standard 802.11b CSMA/CA contention mechanism does not support QoS but the standard 802.11e provides QoS by adjust...

Analytical Modeling of IEEE 802.11e Enhanced Distributed Channel Access under a Non-Saturation Condition

Problem statement: The IEEE 802.11e EDCA protocol with different access Categories (ACs) supporting for Quality-of-Service (QoS). Due to internal or external packet collision, the Contention Window (CW) of the station increases the channel idle time under high Bit Error Rate (BER). Approach: In this study, we propose an analytical model for performance evaluation of IEEE 802.11e EDCA scheme und...

Throughput Analysis Model for IEEE 802.11e EDCA with Multiple Access Categories

IEEE 802.11e standard has been specified to support differentiated quality of service (QoS), one of the critical issues on the conventional IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs). Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) is the fundamental and mandatory contention-based channel access method of IEEE 802.11e, and delivers traffic based on differentiated Access Categories (ACs). A gen...

Closed-form Solution of the Bianchi Model for 802.11 DCF and IEEE 802.11e EDCA

Based on some empirical observations, we present a fairly accurate assumption about the throughput performance under non-saturation conditions and when the system is near saturation. This allows us to find a closed form solution for the transmission probabilities and collision probabilities. These can be inserted into performance expressions derived from any available analytical model for 802.1...

Performance analysis of IEEE 802.11e EDCA in wireless LANs

In this paper, we propose an analytical model for the performance evaluation of IEEE 802.11e enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA). Different from most previous analytical studies based on the saturation assumption, we extend the analytical model to non-saturation conditions. An empty state is introduced into the Markov chain to represent the status of transmission queue being empty. This ...
